What are the decoration and layout trends in the world of the kitchen in 2022? More than ever, the kitchen plays an essential role in the habitat. It dreams of being open or semi-open and has become over the years a living room, where you can have lunch or dinner, have an aperitif on your island or work in a friendly atmosphere. A trend that should largely continue in 2022, in a post-health crisis context that is pushing consumers to make it a welcoming, warm and friendly cocoon. Styles, colors, facade materials, worktops, storage furniture, household appliances… Côté Maison interviewed three kitchen experts who reveal the major trends in interior design and decoration that will shape the kitchen of tomorrow. The details with Maryline Stoeckel, Schmidt style market manager,
Kitchen sales have never been so good! Following the health crisis, the French are increasingly devoting themselves to the development of their habitat and in particular to the renovation of their kitchen , to make it a cozy and functional room. “The kitchen has become the heart of the reactor of the house, explains Vincent Grégoire , and since the covid, many consumers want to consume more usefully by getting involved in particular in ‘good’ eating. Paradoxically, the consumer does not only want a functional kitchen, he also wants a beautiful kitchen that is easy to live with , open and stylish, in which he will take pleasure and feel good.”
A sector in which there is no revolution this year 2022, but rather reinforcements of trends already observed last year. The natural style continues to appeal while the Art Deco look begins to break through. Consumers are also expecting more ecological kitchens, made in France or made from recycled materials, such as the Origin model by Schmidt , designed with 100% recycled wood panels. In terms of colors, black is somewhat dethroned by dark blue or variations of beige and off-white. The layouts also rely more on low furniture and mix open and closed parts. Finally, the open kitchen with islandstill represents the absolute dream but often gives way to a semi-open layout for more practicality or to avoid having to embark on major layout work.

Kitchen trend 2022: we want a kitchen with style!
Among the universal expectations of the consumer, the aesthetics of the kitchen comes first, followed by functionality and ergonomics. Last year, natural and industrial styles still reigned supreme. This year, if the natural style continues to develop, the industrial style , carried by very marked woods and by the black color, seems to be running out of steam somewhat, according to Maryline Stoeckel: “The Art Deco style, on the other hand, takes up a lot of space this year and translates into more muted colors – a navy blue or a burgundy – but also brass accessories , such as handles, taps or even golden appliances.”

In a more cocooning spirit, we are also returning to softer woods, with kitchens that follow Scandinavian ‘slow life’ trends and materials, colors or decorative objects that bring a feeling of well-being. “Everything is done to nourish this cocooning style, declares Richard Perrin, with a trend that is confirmed, that of the kitchen without handles, especially when it is open to the living room. More and more, this kitchen must merge into the aesthetics of the living room, inducing furniture without handles for discreet facades but also hidden technical elements such as the hood integrated into the furniture, the plates or even the ceiling. very refined also seem to be marking time, according to Vincent Grégoire: “Possibilities, prices, styles… We find something for all tastes and all expectations, but in general, consumers also want more personalization. We are seeing requests for more ‘regional’ cuisines. The person who lives in the South will choose more local materials such as enamelled lava, zelliges, terracotta in its decoration or its accessories, in the West, we can favor recycled wood and decoration with a marine spirit…”
